Security cameras in a clothing store only work if they are planned with the store, not added after it. Cameras placed as an afterthought leave blind spots, and cables run in a hurry end up visible, fragile and hard to service.

Camera coverage, planned on the drawing

Each camera is placed on the floor plan with its field of view drawn, so we can see coverage before a single hole is drilled:

• Entrance and shopfront: every person entering and leaving the store.
• Cash wrap: the till and the customer side of the counter.
• Sales floor and wall bays: aisles between gondolas and along the walls.
• Stockroom: stock in and out of the back of house.
• Fitting-room corridor: the corridor only, never inside the cubicles.

All cameras record to an NVR (network video recorder) in the office/IT room.

One cable route for every system

Data, power and alarm cables share a planned route on cable trays above the ceiling, running from the office/IT room and distribution board to every point on the floor:

• Camera data: CAT6 cables with PoE, so one cable carries both data and power to each camera.
• POS and network: dedicated data runs to the cash wrap.
• Lighting circuits: organized from the distribution board along the same route.

Clean installation in the ceiling

1. Route: main runs on perforated cable trays hung from the slab.
2. Drop: flexible conduit from the tray down to each camera position.
3. Mount: the back box is fixed to the ceiling grid, so the camera sits flush and secure.
4. Test: angle, focus and recording are checked on the NVR before handover.

The result is a sales floor with no visible cables, and a system that is easy to maintain or expand later.
